Oakwood School Families,
We are so excited to be welcoming ALL students back in person, Thursday, February 18th. As your School Principal, my most important job is to keep everyone safe while they are learning. Here at Oakwood, we will be continuing to have as many safeguards in place as possible. It is a proven fact that the 2 biggest factors in stopping the spread of COVID-19 is personal hygiene and the use of masks. ALL students need a mask every day, please ensure your child has one or two in their backpacks each day. Our janitorial staff are also an important part of our team, as they continue to do nightly sanitation processes well beyond the normal cleaning.
Be aware that two big trade-offs do exist with full, in-person school. One, with all of our students and staff present social distancing is extremely difficult. We will continue to be mindful of that and keep barriers up when possible. Second, COVID-19 has all the same symptoms of the cold and flu. Many students, over the remainder of this winter and spring, can and will get these symptoms. Expect that there will be precautionary quarantines. Our nursing staff, Mrs. Lynch and Mrs. Sherman will work with you to keep that time to a minimum while assuring everyone's safety. Be assured there are plans for maintaining school contact when students are on long quarantines.
I send you this today, with the confidence in our ability to use precautionary measures to limit the spread of COVID-19. Again, I am, and I hope you are excited for our students' return to school. Please know we are continually working to balance the benefits of in-person school with significant safety measures to provide an enjoyable experience and create a new normal.
Please familiarize yourself with drop-off and pick-up procedures. These will be our most congested times and we all need to work together.
Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures
Bus transportation to Oakwood is available and encouraged if you live in the Oakwood attendance area. This ensures that your children will arrive at the same time as other children and will help you avoid the congestion of drop-off and pick-up. Please call Kobussen Buses, Ltd. (424-7575) for more information. Buses will be unloaded at the front of school at 7:20 AM by Oakwood School Family Members and students will then head into the building through doors designated for each grade level. They will then go directly to their classrooms.
AM Car Riders Drop-Off
Drop-off time is 7:30 AM. Drop-off will take place along the sidewalk (indicated at Point D on the map), students should be ready to quickly hop out of the car and move along. Cars will then make the loop around the circle. Students will then head into the building. They will go directly to their classrooms. Section E on the map was for parents that need to park to bring their children into school for some reason, due to CO-Vid, this year you will NOT be ALLOWED to bring your child inside. If you need to talk to a teacher or the office, you will need to email or call.
As you exit to Omro Road, you make a right turn only and then continue on your way. All students who ride the bus are dropped off in the front of the school on Oakwood Road. NO students should be dropped off at this entrance prior to 7:45 AM. In order to reduce the large volume of cars and reduce your chances of having your children be tardy, please consider utilizing the school bus service or carpooling with other families.
PM Dismissal and Pick-Up:
Bus Riders
At the end of the day, students who ride the bus are delivered to their buses by their teachers and staff members. This year, bus riders will be dismissed one bus at a time, then walking out of school to get on their bus.
Carpool Pick-Up
-
Please be mindful of the times you are supposed to pick up your children. The parking lot will be much more crowded now with all students in attendance. PLEASE consider sending your children home on the bus, see above for information on doing so.
If your last name starts with A-M, your pick up time is 2:40 PM and if it ends with N-Z, your time is 2:50 PM. These times were created in an effort to reduce congestion, please honor your assigned time. *If you are carpooling, choose one or the other of the times.
On Early Release days, those times will be 12:30 PM and 12:40 PM.
-
Make a sign with your children's LAST name clearly written and easy for us to read. Place it in the front passenger side window.
-
You will enter the parking lot off Omro Road by Sheldon Nature Area. Cones will be placed in front of the basket hoop on the North side of the parking lot. You will pull up and begin creating 4 rows of vehicles.
-
We will radio in to retrieve your children and bring them to your vehicles. You will then be directed to exit. Once all the vehicles have been filled, the next group of cars will fill in and the procedure will continue.
If you have any questions or concerns about things, please feel free to contact me at any time. Together we can do anything!
Wishing you all well,
Mrs. Susan L. Martin

The Cold Weather is Here...

All students will be outside at recess unless the temperature is below 10 degrees or a wind chill of below zero.
Starting on Wednesday, February 3rd, Food Service will once again be partnering with Feeding America to help distribute the Farm-to-Family boxes along with our school meals. To accommodate for this, we will be going down to one meal distribution on Wednesdays. The distribution will be from 4:30-6:30pm at Oshkosh West High School.
Family food boxes will be available to anyone in the community. Five days worth of meals from the school district will also be available for any child 18 and under. We encourage families looking for meals for eAcademy students, meals for student's virtual days, or meals for children not yet enrolled in school to visit this distribution.
We are asking that anyone interested in picking up boxes or meals not enter the parking lot prior to 4pm to ensure students and staff can safely exit the parking lot before the distribution begins.
Dear Parents and Students:
As we prepare for coming back to school daily, I wanted to reach out again to share some important information regarding our Covid-19 guidelines.
Here are some things your school nurse is asking you to do to help us return to school as safe as possible:
-
Notify me if you are currently under quarantine or isolation (elizabeth.lynch@oshkosh.k12.wi.us)
-
Continue to monitor your student’s health by using the OASD Student Daily Health Screen
-
If you are able to answer “yes” to any of the questions, DO NOT send your child or their siblings to school. Please notify the school that your child and siblings will be absent and state the reason for staying home.
-
We will call you to determine a return-to-school date. This is a new part of our job this year that can feel very invasive. We have to call and ask questions regarding your child’s health. Your cooperation will help us to follow the guidelines and continue to keep the doors open for in-person learning.
-
-
Don't send your child to school if anyone in your house:
-
is waiting for Covid test results
-
has a positive test result
-
is having symptoms consistent with Covid.
-
-
Update your Infinite Campus contact information so we can get a hold of you if your children need to be picked up from school. If you can not do it yourself, please contact your school’s front office.
-
Understand our team of Covid contact tracers are following protocol from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services and the Winnebago County Public Health Department. We follow these protocols to keep your children and the staff in our schools as safe as possible during a pandemic.
