Dear Oakwood School Families,

We have made it to the halfway point!  Second semester has begun and we are SO proud of the progress your children have been making!!

Winter time can be difficult when it comes to finding things to do.  Did you know that playing board games has many benefits???

Here are just a few:

  1. Board games increase brain function.  This activity is a wonderful exercise for the brain.  Because playing stimulates brain  areas that are responsible for complex thought and memory formation for both – kids and adults, it assists in practicing essential cognitive skills, such as problem solving and decision making.

  2. It brings laughter and decreases stress.

  3. Board game playing creates happiness.

  4. It brings people closer and strengthens relationships.

  5. One of the most amazing benefits of board games playing, is that such traditional plays pull people out of the digital world.  Board games engage in activities that do not involve staring at a smartphone, tablet or computer screen.

  6. It lowers blood pressures.

  7. It teaches how to set goals and be patient.

  8. Board games enhance creativity and  self confidence.

Seems like winning reasons to break out those games and spend some time as a family!

Happy February Everyone,

Susan L Martin - Principal

The table above are all "singles" of gloves/mittens.

This last table below has "pairs" of gloves/mittens.

Students have been busy working on their Art to Remember project in Mrs. O's art class.  Art to Remember is a fundraiser that gives you an opportunity to purchase keepsake items customized with your child's artwork.  Look for more information in March, when your child will bring home an order form.  Over the years, the Art to Remember fundraiser has helped us put thousands of dollars into the art classroom and other PTO sponsored events and projects.

Herd PTO Family Night

Get your Oakwood Herd Game Order Form in by February 4th, so you can join in on the fun event.  You can still order tickets on the link provided below right up until game day!  Our family night is planned for Friday, March 4th.  #Herdup!!  Use the code to order your tickets and receive them on your phone.  This option will allow you to reserve seats close to other friends and family easily.  Tickets will be sent home with your child in February if you sent your payment to school.  Herd Up!

Hats, mittens, scarves, boots, and warm winter coats are essential during the winter months.  Students will be going out for recess if the temperature is above 10 and the windchill is above 0.  Snow pants and boots are required to play on the playground equipment or field. Please label ALL clothing, particularly snow pants.

If you or your child have/has a cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, new loss of taste or smell:

  • Keep your child and any siblings that are not vaccinated home from school and contact your school nurse and the office for attendance.

If you or your child have/has at least two or more of the following symptoms: fever, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle/body aches, headache, sore throat, fatigue, congestion/runny nose or nausea:

  • Keep your child and any siblings that are not vaccinated home from school and contact your school nurse and the office for attendance.

If your child has ONLY a fever or ONLY vomiting or ONLY diarrhea:

  • Keep the symptomatic child home and notify the school which symptom your absent student is experiencing.

Please be aware that we are attempting to follow up with any absent children that do not have a reason given, so we can do our best to be proactive with Covid-19 symptoms and keep as many children in school learning as possible. Thank you so much for your patience and understanding while we work through the pandemic.
