Oakwood School Families,

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! The year 2022 surely has to be better than 2021!!  The main goal we have is to continue to teach your children in person!  We know that face-to-face is the best way to learn and we are committed to doing that to the best of our abilities.

There is no doubt about it, Winter is upon us and recess is an important part of our day.  Students are outside in the morning from the time they arrive until school starts and then again for another half hour later in the day.  We go outside as long as the temperature is 10 degrees and the wind chill is 0. (Unless the weather is extremely volatile.)  Students need snow pants and boots to be able to be outside.  PLEASE send your child to school wearing them.  Whether they are in a car or on the bus, they will be headed to the playground and they will need to be dressed appropriately.   Thank you for your help with this effort.

Wishing you a wonderful month,

Hats, mittens, scarves, boots, and warm winter coats are essential during the winter months.  Students will be going out for recess if the temperature is above 10 and the windchill is above 0.  Snow pants and boots are required to play on the playground equipment or field. Please label ALL clothing, particularly snow pants.

This month our student council helped two former Oakwood students (Samuel Groth and Mason Rohr) from Oshkosh West with their Global Academy project.  They came into classrooms to explain their project and then held a penny drive before break to raise money for immigrants coming to Oshkosh to shop at our new Oshkosh Food Co-op.  Students in their class are working with the Co-op to help have authentic foods available for purchase, so new families can enjoy their traditional meals.  Our Oakwood families came through again with our generosity and helped to raise $754.98.  The money raised will help provide gift cards for these families to shop at the Food Co-op.  We thank everyone for your support and willingness to help others in need.

If you or your child have/has a cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, new loss of taste or smell:

  • Keep your child and any siblings that are not vaccinated home from school and contact your school nurse and the office for attendance.

If you or your child have/has at least two or more of the following symptoms: fever, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle/body aches, headache, sore throat, fatigue, congestion/runny nose or nausea:

  • Keep your child and any siblings that are not vaccinated home from school and contact your school nurse and the office for attendance.

If your child has ONLY a fever or ONLY vomiting or ONLY diarrhea:

  • Keep the symptomatic child home and notify the school which symptom your absent student is experiencing.

Please be aware that we are attempting to follow up with any absent children that do not have a reason given, so we can do our best to be proactive with Covid-19 symptoms and keep as many children in school learning as possible. Thank you so much for your patience and understanding while we work through the pandemic.
