WE MADE IT!!
Oakwood School Families,
It is hard to believe that the 2021-22 school year is coming to a close already- it feels like it just began! Yet- here we are winding down for the end of the year. For our fifth grade students, it marks the end of their time as an elementary student and the beginning of their middle school years. A time for new beginnings and adventures as they move onto another school. They will meet many new teachers and students, as well as have lots of new educational and social opportunities. We will miss them here at Oakwood! They will always be a part of our school family and if they ever need us- we are here!
We hope you all have a wonderful summer and get to spend lots of time together as families. It is a common problem among students: summertime regression. Studies show that most students lose at least some knowledge that they gained during the school year over the course of summer vacation. A little effort can go a long way when it comes to helping children avoid significant regression during the summer months. Here are some ideas for you to put in place to prevent that regression from happening:
- Look for educational summer camps or programs.
- Make library visits a weekly excursion.
- Request reading lists from your child's teacher.
- Make reading a daily occurrence.
- Play board games or cards with your child to keep their mathematical thinking sharp.
- Practice counting up and back from various numbers, skip counting too.
Summer is a great time for children to follow their interests and review what they learned last school year, and they can do so at a more relaxed pace. A summer learning routine doesn't have to be rigorous, and it takes just a little creativity to come up with great anti-regression activities. Get your child involved in the process, and remind your child that a little work this summer will have a great impact when he or she goes back to school in the fall.
See you next year-

During the 2021-2022 school year, all students in the Oshkosh Area School District received free breakfast and lunch through the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). The tentative plan for the 2022-2023 school year for Oakwood students will go back to being charged for breakfast and/or hot lunch according to their free, reduced or paid eligibility status.
FREE AND REDUCED MEAL APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2022-2023 SCHOOL YEAR will be available online on the Infinite Campus Parent Portal in mid-July and will also be mailed out in the US mail to all households in mid-July. Please return your completed application to the Food Services Office, Oshkosh West High School, 375 N. Eagle St., Oshkosh, WI 54902, or the Elementary School Office your child attends on or before the first day of school.
LIMITED LUNCH SERVICE AT THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS are used when a student is very negative in their lunch account and the family has been notified by Food Service that service will cease if the account isn’t brought current. If the student doesn’t bring a sack lunch or cash to pay for the lunch the Food Service Department will allow the student to eat a limited lunch. The limited lunch will consist of 2 pieces of bread and a peanut butter cup (as the entrée) and then will be allowed to have the fruit, veggies and milk offered and the account will get charged accordingly for the limited lunch. They will NOT be able to have their choice of an entrée.
HAVE LUNCH WITH YOUR CHILD All Elementary Schools and the Food Services Department invites parents of school-age children to have lunch with their child any school day. Please let the school office know in advance so we can make sure a lunch gets ordered for you. You may bring money with you to pay for the meal or the adult lunch can be charged to your students Food Service Account.
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN THE SCHOOL FOOD SERVICE DEPARTMENT
The food service department is seeking individuals to work for our department serving breakfast and / or lunch. The majority of these positions available are 1.5 - 2 hours in length and are during the breakfast and lunch service time, which varies with the school. Opportunities for longer shifts and additional hours may also be available. Please see the WECAN at https://wecan.education.wisc.edu website for employment opportunities along with applying for positions within the Food Service Department.

From the Health Office:
Just a reminder, if your student has medication here at school, you can pick it up on or before the end of the school year. The last day of school is June 2, 2022. Please let us know if you are able to pick up. The health office staff will be here to assist you.
As we wrap up this school year, we are already looking ahead to next year. If your student has a change in their health or has a healthcare need at school, please contact me via email over the summer and I will get back to you before the start of next school year. If your student will need to take a medication at school, please work with your doctor to have the medication request form completed and signed before the start of the school year. As a reminder, the directions on the medication bottle must match the written order on the medication request form. If your student needs over-the-counter medication at school, please fill out the same medication request form but only the parent signature is needed. A reminder that if your student brings over-the-counter medication, we need a new, unopened bottle at school.
If your student has a health plan or emergency plan on file with the school, you will be receiving a copy to update for 2021-2022 school year over the summer. If your child has immunizations over the summer, you can bring that information when school starts or email me a copy.
I hope you are all staying healthy and that you enjoy your summer. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
