Dear Oakwood School Families,

I want to take this opportunity to thank ALL of you!  This past week’s Book Fair and Family Event were incredible.  It was so wonderful to have parent volunteers back in the building and to have all of YOU back as well.   I am so grateful to be the principal of this awesome school family.  Additionally, I want to share a HUGE thank you to the Oakwood School Staff for all their hard work making this event possible!!

Next week is Staff Appreciation Week!  It is a time to thank our staff-teachers, paraprofessionals, custodial, secretarial, specialists and all others who dedicate their days to education and supporting children each day.  The Oakwood School Family of staff is a dedicated team, focused on helping students achieve and building strong relationships. Thank you to the PTO that has a week full of events planned and organized to celebrate the staff!

Wishing all of you well always,

Susan L. Martin - Principal

Oakwood PTO is having a sock fundraiser!  Your child should have brought home a copy of this order form in the last few days.  Get your orders in by May 11th.  These would make super cute end-of-the-year teacher gifts, and would be fun for the kids to wear on crazy sock dress-up days!

In April, our student council members worked together to get our school ready for our Scholastic Book Fair/Used Book Sale and One School One Book Kick-Off.  We also started making plans for our Bike-to-School Day in May.

We hope many families will be able to join us on Friday, May 20th for our Bike-to-School Day.  Families can meet together at various locations close to Oakwood so they can ride their bikes or walk together to school.  Students will be greeted out on the playground by staff and special guests from our community on that morning.  We are so excited to be able to hold this event again!!  We hope to see many of you on our special day.  We encourage you to use this opportunity to discuss safety rules with your children on how to safely ride bikes and to follow the rules on the road.  Don’t forget to wear your bike helmets!

From the Health Office:

Just a reminder, if your student has medication here at school, you can pick it up on or before the end of the school year.  The last day of school is June 2, 2022.  Please let us know if you are able to pick up.  The health office staff will be here to assist you.

As we wrap up this school year, we are already looking ahead to next year.  If your student has a change in their health or has a healthcare need at school, please contact me via email over the summer and I will get back to you before the start of next school year.  If your student will need to take a medication at school, please work with your doctor to have the medication request form completed and signed before the start of the school year.  As a reminder, the directions on the medication bottle must match the written order on the medication request form. If your student needs over-the-counter medication at school, please fill out the same medication request form but only the parent signature is needed. A reminder that if your student brings over-the-counter medication, we need a new, unopened bottle at school.

If your student has a health plan or emergency plan on file with the school, you will be receiving a copy to update for 2021-2022 school year over the summer. If your child has immunizations over the summer, you can bring that information when school starts or email me a copy.

I hope you are all staying healthy and that you enjoy your summer.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
