WE MADE IT!!

Oakwood School Families,

      It is hard to believe that the 2023-24 school year is coming to a close already- it feels like it just began!  Yet- here we are winding down for the end of the year.  For our fifth grade students it marks the end of their time as an elementary student and the beginning of their middle school years.  We will miss them here at Oakwood!  They will always be a part of our school family and if they ever need us- we are here! Once an 🦅always an 🦅!!

     A few end of the year thank yous:

• Thank you to everyone who participated in our One School One Book reading of Odder.  Reading together with your children is one of the most important things you can do to grow them as readers.  

• Thank you also to all who participated in our school book fair.  The money raised from the fair will go directly back to classroom teachers so they can purchase current books for their classrooms.  

• Thank you to Oakwood School Staff and the Oakwood PTO for making our family night a wonderful success.

 

    We hope you all have a wonderful summer and get to spend lots of time together as families. Studies show that most students lose at least some knowledge that they gained during the school year over the course of summer vacation.  A little effort can go a long way when it comes to helping children avoid significant regression during the summer months. 

 

 Here are some ideas for you to put in place to prevent that regression from happening:

 

Look for educational summer camps or programs. 

Make library visits a weekly excursion. 

Make reading a daily occurrence. 

Play board games or cards with your child to keep their mathematical thinking sharp.

Practice counting up and back from various numbers, skip counting too.

      Summer is a great time for children to follow their interests and review what they learned last school year-and they can do so at a more relaxed pace. A summer learning routine doesn't have to be rigorous, and it takes just a little creativity to come up with great anti-regression activities. Get your child involved in the process, and remind your child that a little work this summer will have a great impact when he or she goes back to school in the fall.

Student Council News

In April, Student Council members made May Day baskets and cards for all of our teachers and staff at Oakwood. We wanted to share some kindness and memories of the May Day tradition. Members delivered the baskets on May 1st to celebrate the day and to honor our staff. Happy May Day everyone! 

 

Bike/Walk to School Day-Student Council will once again sponsor our Annual Bike/Walk to School Day on Friday, May 24th. We encourage all of our students and families to bike or walk to school on the 24th. In the past many families made plans to meet at various locations around Oakwood and then biked or walked to school together. Staff members will be outside to greet students and families in the morning. We hope you will consider joining our fun. All Oakwood students will have the opportunity to choose a prize on this day as well. Our rain date will be on May 30th. Hope to see many of our Oakwood families biking and walking to school. Don’t forget your helmets if you're biking! #Safe Routes to School

Girl Scout Troop 2409 is working on earning our Bronze Award!  We will be building a walking path connecting the Oakwood playground to the Nature Center trail to make the playground and trail more accessible and help keep our feet dry when we walk to school!  We will also be doing some planting around the front of the school and new sign!  With Spring rapidly approaching we are hoping that anyone at our Oakwood School Family who is planning to divide up their hostas this season may be willing to donate some to our project!  Girls from our troop have worked hard to make the signs below telling you how to donate!

 

Get Ready for the 2024-25 School Year!

The Oshkosh Area School District’s Annual Student Update (Enrollment/Registration) for returning K-12 students and for new 4K students will take place April 1 - September 1, 2024. Students must be enrolled by September 1. While the deadline is September 1, we encourage you to complete this process as soon as possible to secure your child's spot for the next school year.

This annual enrollment process is mandatory and reserves your student's place at their school for the upcoming academic year. You'll update demographic and contact information through the Infinite Campus (IC) Parent Portal.

• Mobile Registration: To register on your smartphone, download the app from your device's app center (iPhone - App Store or Android - Google Play), or click these direct links. Be sure to select the "Campus Parent" option - look for this icon:

In-Person Support: If you need in-person assistance, access to a device, or internet, attend our Central Registration Day at Oshkosh North High School on August 7, 2024. More information will be provided in the coming months.

Fees: Fees and payments if applicable for the 2024-25 school year cannot be paid until mid-August, additional information will be provided at that time.

Your child's school will provide additional resources for the 2024-2025 school year, including important dates.

FREE AND REDUCED MEAL APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2024-2025 SCHOOL YEAR
will be available online on the Infinite Campus Parent Portal in mid-July and will also be
mailed out in the US mail to all households in mid-July. Please return your completed
application to the Food Services Office, Oshkosh West High School, 375 N. Eagle St.,
Oshkosh, WI 54902, or the Elementary School Office your child attends on or before
the first day of school.

HAVE LUNCH WITH YOUR CHILD All Elementary Schools and the Food Services
Department invites parents of school-age children to have lunch with their child any
school day. Please let the school office know in advance so we can make sure a lunch
gets ordered for you. You may bring money with you to pay for the meal or the adult
lunch can be charged to your students Food Service Account.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN THE SCHOOL FOOD SERVICE DEPARTMENT
The food service department is seeking individuals to work for our department serving
breakfast and / or lunch. The majority of these positions available are 1.5 - 2 hours in
length and are during the breakfast and lunch service time, which varies with the school.
Opportunities for longer shifts and additional hours may also be available. Please see
the WECAN at https://wecan.education.wisc.edu website for employment opportunities
along with applying for positions within the Food Service Department.
