Hello Oakwood School Families,

It is hard to believe that it is the beginning of November already and that we have been in our virtual learning environment for just about a month.  We, like you, wish that this pandemic would come to an end.  We are excited that the students will be returning in person starting on Nov. 12th and look forward to seeing everyone in person twice a week as we transition back and into the AB virtual AB Hybrid Learning Model.  In the meantime, there are not enough words to express the gratitude we feel towards all of you for the help you have given us as we work to provide instruction in this virtual model.

In the survey we sent you, it was expressed that one of your largest concerns at this time is the social/emotional well being of your child(ren).  Here are some ways you can keep your child(ren) engaged with others in a safe way during this time:

- Gather their friends for an online game night: apps like online game site Pogo allow your kids to play some of their favorite board games, like Monopoly and Yahtzee, with friends without sitting around the same table.

- Host a movie night and have them all watch together. You can synchronize video playback with your child’s friends and add group chat so kids can "talk" during the movie.

- Go retro and mail letters!! This is another way to keep them connected. It also teaches them the mechanics of writing a letter and addressing an envelope, which in this age of texting may not be a skill they’ve practiced and developed.

- Chalk the walk to leave messages for neighbors.

- Create an ongoing story. Set your kids up with a Google Doc. Have them write one or two lines of a story, and then send it to a friend to add a few lines.

Normally during the month of November, we have face-to-face Parent Teacher Conferences.  Due to the COVID pandemic, we are unable to hold these.  For this year, we will conduct Parent Teacher Conferences virtually and here’s how they will work.  Your child(s) teacher will contact you to set up a virtual meeting sometime in the month of November.  Together, you will choose a time that works best for both of you.

November is the month where we should take the time to think about all we are grateful for and we are EXTREMELY grateful for ALL of you!! We know that these are not ideal circumstances and that many of you are frustrated, but we want you to know that we are doing the best we can!

THANK YOU and Happy Thanksgiving!
