Happy Spring Oakwood School Families,

It is hard to believe that it is already April and that this school year is almost over.  As we continue to watch your students make academic gains we also begin to make plans for the 2025-26  school year.  

Class lists are created with the belief that student needs are best met through heterogeneous/mixed groups that take into consideration such variables as student numbers, gender ratios, student behaviors, and achievement levels. The services of our special education teachers and other academic specialists also impact a student’s placement. As a result, requests for classroom placements are usually not necessary.

The talents of our teachers at Oakwood are diverse. Matching teaching and learning styles requires appropriate knowledge of both the learner and the teacher. In addition, OASD Board Policy 5120 charges us with the important task of creating balanced classes. It also includes this statement in the policy: “Parent/guardian request for assignment of students to specific teachers prior to receiving notice of placement will be carefully limited to assure an equal opportunity for all students.”

If parents still would like to submit a request, they must base the request upon a legitimate need of the student. If a parent has an educational reason to support a classroom placement, the following guidelines should be followed:

• Please submit a Request for Specific Teacher or Class Prior to Assignment form, stating the reasons why such a placement is important for your child's education. Forms are available in the office or you can fill out electronically here.
• All requests should be received in the office no later than Monday, April 28th. No requests received after this date will be honored.

Due to the need to balance classes, distribute learning abilities, place students together in workable groups, and numerous other variables that must be considered, we are unable to guarantee that requests will be honored. Get Ready for the 2025-26 School Year!

The Oshkosh Area School District’s Annual Student Update (Enrollment/Registration) for returning K-12 students and for new 4K students will take place April 1 - September 1, 2025. Students must be enrolled by September 1. While the deadline is September 1, we encourage you to complete this process as soon as possible to secure your child's spot for the next school year.

Your child’s school for the 2025-2026 school year will be listed in IC. If you have recently moved or if you were involuntarily transferred due to space limitations at your home school, please be sure to check this as it may be different from where your child is currently attending. 

This annual enrollment process is mandatory, and your student's place at their school will be reserved for the upcoming academic year. You'll update your demographic and contact information through the Infinite Campus (IC) Parent Portal.

February 2025

Dear Oakwood Parents,

 

The 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students are pleased to present their Broadway themed spring concert, “Oakwood ROCKS”, on Tuesday, April 8th, 2025 at 6:00 pm in the Alberta Kimball Auditorium inside Oshkosh West High School. 

The students have worked very hard throughout this semester and they are eager to share what they have learned. I have provided a program for the spring concert should your child want to practice outside of music class as well as a link to a Youtube playlist that you can access at home.

 

3rd grade:

Dress for the concert: 

 Given the theme and music selected for the concert, I am requesting that students dress the part! If you would like to wear band T-shirts, jeans, denim, bandanas, leather jackets, etc., I think it would really bring the concert to life. If you would prefer to just wear something nice (collared shirt, khakis, a nice dress,etc.) that is perfectly fine as well. In all cases, whatever you choose to wear must be school appropriate. 

 

Before the concert:

Please arrive at the Alberta Kimball Auditorium by no later than 5:45 pm. At 5:45 pm, please find your child’s classroom teacher and have your child stay with their class. ALL students can find their teacher(s) inside the auditorium. After your child is dropped off with their classroom teacher, please find a seat in the auditorium and enjoy the concert! 

 

After the concert:

Please wait for your child to exit the stage and return to their class before taking them home. Each class will have a section of the auditorium where you can find your child with their classroom teacher.

 

Parking:

For family and friends attending the concert, parking is available on the north side of Oshkosh West High School.

 

Concert Specifics (please review)

1. No food or drink is allowed inside the auditorium.
2. Doors to the auditorium open at 5pm. If you would like to come and find a seat, you are welcome. 
3. Auditorium Etiquette

As we rehearse the songs for the concert, the students also learn about appropriate behaviors while they are in the auditorium; both as a performer and an audience member. Please help model these expectations as you wait for the concert to begin. 

1. Child(ren) must stay with their parents until they meet their teachers at 5:45pm in their designated spots. The auditorium is not a gymnasium, nor is it a place for running around and being out of control. 
2. If you’d like to bring a book, iPad, or coloring pages for your child while they wait, that is perfectly fine.
3. Thank you for helping set the example for these young musicians!

Our playground can be extremely wet and muddy this time of year!  Please consider packing a spare set of clothes in your child’s backpack.

Jackets need to be worn outside until the temperature reaches 50 degrees.  

For the remainder of this school year, Oakwood will no longer be collecting plastic bags for recycling.  Festival Foods has a drop off location for these bags if you wish to recycle them.
