Newsletter - January 2025

Happy New Year Oakwood School Families,

I hope you and your family are doing well! Semester 1 is almost complete and report cards will be on their way to your homes later this month. Please take some time to review your child's report card with your child. Here are some questions that may help guide your conversation at home:

• How do you think your year has been going so far?
• What are you proud of?
• What do you think your greatest strength as a learner is? Why do you think so?
• What do you think is the most challenging part of your school day? Why?
• Is there anything you want to change or improve in the second semester? How do you think you'll do it?

There are two ways of thinking about problems, using a fixed mindset or a growth mindset. In a fixed mindset, the belief is that this is the way that things are and there is not much that you can do about it. In a growth mindset, the belief is that setbacks or challenges are learning opportunities and you can grow from them. Talk to your child about having a growth mindset and give an example where you used a growth mindset when faced with a challenge. 

Make sure to celebrate your child's efforts! We are proud of all of our Oakwood  learners! Each day, learners are growing in their social/emotional and academic learning! We look forward to another semester of learning and growing together.

Please be sure to reacquaint with the arrival and dismissal procedures linked in this newsletter.  There have been quite a few late arrivals in the morning.  The back doors will  close at 7:45 AM.  Any students not in the building at that time should be brought to the front doors to check in.

Please call the Oakwood main office at 920-424-0315 to report any student absences, late arrivals, or early dismissals.  You may leave a detailed voice message outside of office hours including the student's name, teacher, and reason for the absence.  

You may also report your students absence through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal.  To do so, log into your Infinite Campus Parent account: In the menu, select "More" and then "Absence Requests".  

4K Parents- Please call the 4K office at 920-424-1004 to report your child's absence.  

Hello Oakwood parents!

The application for ALPs (Advanced Learning Program) is open! ALPs is a unique program designed to serve self-motivated learners in Grades 4-8 located within Perry Tipler Middle School. The application is open through March 1st. Please submit if you are interested!

OASD K-12 eAcademy Mid-Year Enrollment Now Open!

This is an opportunity for K-12 students to enroll in the district’s free, full-time online schooling for the second semester.

 

• Enrollment Period: Open through January 8 at 11:59 PM.
• Application: Available via Infinite Campus.
• Notification: Families will be notified by January 15. Approval decisions made by the student's building principal.
• K-8 Families: Mandatory in-person orientation for new elementary and middle school students on January 21 (daytime and evening options). More details to come.

Join us for the inaugural MLK Day Celebration hosted by the Oshkosh Area School District on January 20, 2025. This community event will include:

• Keynote speaker
• MLK essay contest winners
• And more!

RSVP Required: While the event is free, guests must RSVP in advance for planning purposes. Students and children must be accompanied by a guardian.

Please make sure to send boots and snow pants to school with your child.  These items should be worn upon arrival to school each day.  Students will be outside on the playground before the bell rings at 7:40 each morning and at all recess times.  It is also a good idea to pack an extra set of clothing (top, pants, socks, shoes) with your child in the event these items get wet on the playground.  

Students will have indoor recess if the temperature is less than 10 degrees or the wind chill is 0 or below.

The LOST AND FOUND is once again piling up with lost items. Please take a moment to see if any of these items look familiar!   There are also BINS of sweatshirts (too many to picture).

Oakwood Elementary Virtual Flyer

Thank you to everyone who collected and brought in plastic for our NexTrex challenge. We finished 2024 collecting just over our goal of 1,000lbs. Oakwood will continue collecting bags through this school year with a new challenge beginning in the fall. A huge thank you to Cub Scout Pack 3615's 5th grade group who helped make this a success!
