Newsletter - November 2024

Happy November-Oakwood Families,

      Parent/Teacher Conferences will begin this next week on Thursday evening and then continue the following week on Tuesday and Thursday. You can sign up using the PTCFast website for Oakwood. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we worked to accommodate families that have multiple children as well as the rest of our school family.

    Conferences are a wonderful time to be updated on all the successes that your child(ren) have experienced already this year.  In addition you will be receiving information from assessments and data that teachers have been collecting.  Remember this is baseline data and is specifically used as a starting point for teachers to plan instruction.  In January and again at the end of the year this data will show your child(rens) growth.  With hard work, dedication, and the partnership with you we can ensure that EVERY student is achieving.  I hope you enjoy your meetings and all the wonderful insights our teachers have about your child(ren).  

     This month our Social/Emotional focus is gratitude.  We can experience gratitude for someone or something at certain moments in time.  Identifying moments of gratefulness has many positive effects from improving mental health to boosting relationships with others.  Living life with gratitude helps you notice the little wins—like the bus showing up right on time, a stranger holding the door for you, or the sun shining through your window when you wake up in the morning. Each of these small moments strings together to create a web of well-being that, over time, strengthens your ability to notice the good.

    Here at Oakwood, we are grateful for all of you and your children.  We have the BEST jobs ever and enjoy spending time with your child(ren), watching them learn and grow.

Oakwood School Families-

Please join me in welcoming- Jill Schlichting.  She will be serving as our Art Teacher while Mrs. Recker is out on leave.   She will be available on 11/7 from 3-7 during Parent/Teacher conferences.  Here is a little bit about her:

My name is Jill Schlichting and I have been a substitute teacher for 7 years. I also coach and ref many of the middle school sports.

My husband Mark and I have two boys that are 24 and 21 years old. We also have two black labs.  Some of our favorite past times are hiking, disc golf and watching our boys play sports.

Congratulations to Jase Draves! 

Jase won the Oshkosh Fire Department annual poster contest and got a ride to school in a fire truck!

The Wisconsin Herd is excited to announce the winners of the annual BMO Art Contest! There were 3,000+ students that participated and 25 schools from across the state of Wisconsin. The Herd, BMO, and a panel of judges have made selections for the winning artwork and have listed them below with last name and school:

Her design will be added to a jersey worn by the Wisconsin Herd players at the game on December 11th.  Eden is receiving court-side tickets from the Herd to watch the game!  See next panel for information to purchase tickets for this game!

 Oakwood Elem Retake Day

Mark your calendars for the Oakwood Book Fair which will be taking place December 2nd- December 6th.  Family night for shopping will be Wednesday, December 4th from 5:30-7.  More information to follow in November!!

 

The Winter Concert for grades K-2 will be held on December 10th at 6PM in the Alberta Kimball Auditorium at West High School.  More details to follow soon.  

 

 

 

Hello, OASD Families of Students in Grades 1-6,

Your child can be part of our exciting youth basketball league! The Oshkosh Recreation Department is proud to offer a program focused on developing skills, building confidence, and creating friendships in a fun, caring environment.

QUICK FACTS:

• Program runs January 6 - March 8, 2025

• Open to grades 1-6

• One practice per week (set day by grade level)

• Saturday games at Vel Phillips Middle School Gym

• Cost: $30 residents, $35 non-residents

• Coaches are expected to provide all players with fair playing time, as close to equal as possible

WHAT MAKES OUR LEAGUE SPECIAL:

• Non-competitive, learning-focused environment

• Teams formed by school location for convenience

• All games and practices within Oshkosh Area School District

• Structured program with experienced supervision

KEY DATES:

• Registration Deadline: Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at 4 PM

• Special Event: Player Skills Camp - Saturday, January 11 (stay tuned for details!)

• Season Games: Saturdays, January 18 - March 8

PRACTICE SCHEDULE:

Location and time will be announced soon. Practices (one hour) generally happen at 6 or 7 PM.

• 1st-2nd Grade: Mondays

• 3rd-4th Grade: Tuesdays

• 5th-6th Grade: Thursdays

VOLUNTEER COACHES NEEDED:  We need volunteer coaches to make our Youth Basketball League season happen!  No experience is necessary, but you do need to be 21 or older and pass a background check.  We provide all the materials and timelines to help you become a great coach.  Please indicate on your child's registration that you are willing to coach!!!
